When you are confused how to make a movie copying from another one, what do you do? You copy from some other movies to make other subplots. And then you get movies like Notebook. Notebook review, brought to you by AboutFlick’s Mr S.
Director: Nitin Kakkar.
Review: I could never understand love stories where the boy and the girl do not meet before the end of the movie. Like Bollywood has already written their fate that you are going to meet but we have to let the audiences sit for the next two hours where we can’t allow you to be seen together,
And when the boy cannot meet the girl, he reads her personal diary which isn’t creepy at all! Then why name the movie notebook? You could have simply made Diary! But things go out of control when the boy burns the diary after reading that the girl had decided to leave the school as she wanted to marry her boyfriend! No doubt this hero is launched by Salman khan. His character’s anger level matches with the legend!
Now coming to the character of the girl. Her character’s backstory is still being developed by the makers of the movie. Yup! You heard me correct. The prospects of a proper character development is not something the makers of Notebook has learned.
The movie is adapted from Thai movie Teacher’s diary. Set in 2000 because the exodus of Kashmiri Pundits had to be included as a subplot, the male character is an army veteran. Remember The Lucky One??? Told you copied from several movies
The emotional scenes and the comedy scenes seem disruptive and you can hardly connect it to the same person. After a certain while I was confused as to whether there was one director or more.
And Salman khan’s song does not help. And trust me it never did!
Zaheer Iqbal seemed determined not to give any expressions and he succeeded. Pranutan Bahl however is better than Zaheer but only by bits.
The best thing about the movie though is the cinematography besides the seven children whom you can’t help but adore.
Rating: My rating for Notebook is 2/5.
Who should watch this: There are far better romantic movies wher the boy and the girl do not meet before the ending and yet they manage to keep the charcters and audieneces sane thoughout the movie. For example yuve got mail, sleepless in seattle. And then there are classic love stories like the notebook, fault in our stars, Notting Hill and When Harry Met Sally which you can go for instead of this movie
